Encouraging everyone to take care of their feet with these key tips

The staff at Beverly Hospital’s Center for Advanced Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine is encouraging patients to put their ‘best foot forward’ during Foot Health Awareness month by following a few simple healthy feet tips.

According to Webmd.com, Americans walk approximately 75,000 miles by the time they reach age 50. Good foot health ensures that patients can continue to log miles and set themselves up for long term mobility and well-being.

Our healthcare providers recommend that patients routinely inspect their feet and monitor their nutrition, as issues with diabetes and obesity impact the feet. Other ways patients can keep their feet healthy include:

  • Keeping feet clean. Wash with soap and warm water; rinse well and pat dry
  • Not wearing shoes without socks or stockings
  • Not walking barefoot
  • Wearing properly fitted shoes
  • Trimming toenails regularly
  • Not using over-the-counter remedies for corns
  • Avoiding extreme temperatures
  • Applying moisturizer regularly
