Beverly Hospital’s Emergency Care Center staff are here and ready to provide compassionate and quality health care.

COMING THIS SUMMER to Montebello: A bigger, better and faster Emergency Care Center (ECC) to serve the community.

In December 2017, Beverly Hospital broke concrete on its landmark ECC expansion project, which could be fully ready for patients as early as June 2019. Some parts of the work, like a remodeled waiting area, are already done. Crews were ahead of schedule on several new treatment rooms. The ECC has remained open during the construction, which will nearly double the size of the busy ECC. “The facility treats well over 100 people a day—or more than 37,000 patients a year,” says Lia Arredondo, ECC Charge Nurse. The high patient volume and limited space has sometimes led to longer waits. “We needed to expand the size of our ECC,” Arredondo says, “This gives us the room we need to see more patients quickly and with the privacy they deserve.” The expansion will nearly double the number of beds (from 17 to 32) and the size of the ECC (to 16,800 square feet). The project also includes:

  • Two new rapid medical exam rooms for quickly treating conditions that aren’t life threatening
  • New walk-in entrance
  • Remodeled waiting area and nursing station
  • Improved privacy for patients
  • New ambulance bay

“We needed to expand the size of our ECC. This gives us the room we need to see more patients quickly and with the privacy they deserve.” – Lia Arredondo, ECC Charge Nurse.

Vital to a Growing Community

In addition to treating the usual medical emergencies, the ECC is a heart attack, stroke and EDAP (Emergency Departments Approved for Pediatrics) facility. This means that the medical team in the ECC can quickly treat heart attacks and strokes, and its board-certified emergency doctors are specially trained to treat children. While the ECC is meant for emergencies, it also cares for people with illnesses or injuries that aren’t life-threatening. “We welcome anyone who walks through our door,” Arredondo says. The ECC staff doesn’t just provide great emergency care. They do so with compassion. As Arredondo notes, she and others who work in the ECC have a heart for meeting the needs of the community they serve.
